This blog post discusses some important factors to understand about your stainless steel weep hole cover, its maintenance and safty of handling. Some of our customers have asked if the product will corrode or rust and if this will have impact on the surrounding brick of their home. We address these questions in this article.
The product is pure spring stainless steel, no coating.
We do know that our product is made of strong spring stainless steel.
These have been sold since 2006, so for 8 years. No complaints of rust or damage otherwise.
It is a material that has high resistance, it will keep its strength and looks for a long time.
The color of the steel can change over time.
All kinds of stainless steel can rust or corrode – more or less - under certain circumstances.
Dirt, salt and iron particles in combination with moisture can cause corrosion. Therefore a lot of stainless steel cleaning products are available on the market.
The product is pure spring stainless steel. So cutting does not affect the inside, the inside is the same as the outside.
Cutting stainless steel with ‘infected’ tools can cause rust or corrosion on stainless steel. That’s why workshops have to clean their cutting tools after cutting iron, before cutting stainless steel. Use clean cutting tools.
Exterior home products need maintenance or cleaning in some way, to last longer
We can’t take responsibility for circumstances, since we don’t know all the exact circumstances of each home or building.
Home-owners should clean around the home's exterior regularly, and are advised to inspect the grills and clean if necessary.
When cleaning these stainless steel covers use approved stainless steel cleaning products. Follow the cleaning agent manufacturer's instructions and check with them if you have questions. In case problems should arise with the product, then it can be seen easily since it is in sight.
The product can be taken out of the weep hole with common tools if necessary to prevent further damage.
While the steel is paintable, we cannot know what may be added to paints, primers etc. that could affect the steel. Installers must consult with the paint manufacturer recommendations on priming and painting stainless steel.
Rid-O-Mice will not be responsible for repair or replacement of any resulting damage due to distortion, warping, buckling, shrinkage, paint blistering, or peeling of paint on the stainless steel products.
Follow the paint manufacturer’s recommendations to apply. Make sure Rid-O-Mice is clean and dry before painting.
Being this is a metal product there is a risk to the handler of getting cut by the metal during trimming, mounting or removing the product. One is advised to wear work gloves to best avoid this risk.
