Missing Mortar Above And Below Weep Hole

Sometimes a weephole can extend above and below the brick forming an abnormal length weep hole. In this case a normal weep hole of 2.75 inches became 3.25 inches or 1/2 inch longer than our stainless steel weep hole insert. Here is what one home owner from Pensacola, Florida did to solve this issue using Rid-O-Mice:

Mice can enter your weep holes with just a 1/4 inch openning so it is important the retrofit weep hole insert not leave a gap approaching nor exceeding 1/4 inch. You can see by this photo there is a large gap above the 2.75 inch stainless steel weep hole insert.

What the home owner did was insert the full 2.75 inch clip ensuring it was pushed down into the bottom of the weep hole, thereby leaving the only visible gap at the top. Then he took snips and cut a spare stainless steel insert to fit this gap. The remaining spare insert would be used similarly for other abnormal weep holes.

He then pushed this modified piece into the gap above the already inserted weep hole insert.

Mission accomplished, the stainless steel weep hole insert looks pleasing to the eye, seemless and attractive. Mice and other pests including bees, wasps, lizzards, snakes and larger bugs cannot pass through the weep hole..
